Audi E-Tron Concept

First seen at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show in September, the Audi E-tron concept will make its first appearance on the west side of the Atlantic at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sized between the Audi TT and R8 and stylistically similar to the latter, the E-Tron concept, features four electric motors -- one at each wheel -- that produce a respectable 313 hp and an earth-moving 3319 lb-ft of torque. Its 42 kWh battery is reportedly good for 154 miles and can throw down enough electronically limited juice to whip the 3527-lb car to 60 mph in 4.8 sec on to a top speed of 124 mph, according to the automaker.
The car itself is stylistically very similar to Audi's R8 production sports car, but there are some key changes. Beyond the more futuristic-looking headlights, taillights, and wheels (not to mention a simplified, tech-laden version of the R8's interior), the e-tron is somewhat smaller than its R8 cousin at 167.7 in. long, 74.8 in. wide, and 48.43 in. tall. The e-tron's wheelbase at 102.4-in. is also shorter than the R8.

Given its aerodynamic profile, 3527-lb weight, and prodigious torque, you might expect acceleration comparable to a top-fuel dragster, but 0 to 62 mph sprints are actually more in line with a production V-8-powered R8, at 4.8 sec. Top speed is electronically limited at 125.
