honda insight concept

Honda has revived its Insight label for its all-new hybrid car, which was engineered to directly compete with Toyota's hugely successful Prius. Slated to go on sale in the U.S. next spring, the concept shown here -- called the Honda Insight  Concept Hybrid -- will serve as the basis for the global production model. Styling is largely derived from Honda's current FCX Clarity hydrogen-powered car that is currently on lease in limited quantities throughout Southern California and certain parts of Japan. Honda promises the Insight Concept's production version will be the most affordable hybrid in its segment. Keeping this in mind, engineers implemented a more cost-effective version of existing Integrated Motor Assist hybrid powertrain used in the brand's current lineup. The IMA engine consists of a 110-hp 1.3L four-cylinder paired with a lightweight, high-output electric motor. Honda insists the revised IMA powertrain achieves fuel economy ratings on par with its current Civic  Hybrid (40 mpg city/ 45 mpg highway) but at a significantly lower price point. The Japanese brand is hoping to sell 200,000 Insights annually once production is underway, with 100,000 sales coming from North America alone
